How To Buff Scratches Out Of Glass Cooktop

Stove tops add beauty to the decoration of your kitchen. Nowadays, the top most in-demand stove includes glass cooktops with different kinds of designs which inculcate further embellishing your kitchenette. Glass stovetops are popular due to their smooth surfaces, which offer your kitchen a fresh, clean, and modern look.

But the stove tops / cooktops are also not very durable and indestructible and require your carefulness and attentiveness while handling. These stovetops are vulnerable to any hard hit and can break or shatter when contracting with a large object or a crack can forms over time subsequently.

If you are hesitant to clean the scratches from your cooktop because of any fire hazard then don’t worry. These light scratches on your glass stove top can easily be rubbed off without causing damage to the cooktop or creating a fire danger. With the proper solutions and a little elbow grease, these stubborn stains can be removed without any sweat.

But if you already have contracted stubborn scratches / damages / cracks and cannot afford to replace your glass stovetop then this guide is definitely for you.

It doesn’t cost you that much if you are willing to repair the damages by yourself but the damages must be the scratches only and for more than that, you must have to replace your glass stove top.

With Baking Soda & Toothpaste:

You can also provide a solution in this regard with the help of things available at home i.e. baking soda with these three simple steps.

Things You Will Need

  • Bowl
  • Baking Soda
  • Toothpaste
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Sponge
  • Piece of Cloth

i) Examine the Scratch:

Depending on the position and depth of the scratch, it may be best to forego repair and instead visit an appliance professional. Scratches on the heating element that cannot be rubbed or dulled will necessitate expert repair or replacement.

ii) Collect Materials:

Baking soda, a small basin, a soft sponge or towel, and water are all required. Fortunately, all of them are typical home objects that you are likely to have laying around your kitchen or garage.

iii) Make a Paste:

In a small dish, combine two teaspoons of baking soda and one teaspoon of water to make a paste. This all-natural paste is ideal for repairing glass stovetops. Because dry and abrasive materials should not be used on a glass cooktop, make sure the paste is moist.

Apply the paste to the scratches.

iii) Buff after applying the Paste:

Dampen a soft sponge or cloth and apply the paste carefully to the scratched areas of the glass cooktop. Buff the scratches lightly with the paste until you are pleased. Remember that you will never be able to completely erase or fix the scratch.

Finally, wipe away any excess paste with a clean towel.

Words of Wisdom: Before cleaning, make sure the cooktop is turned off and completely cool. Never scrape the glass with abrasive objects or chemicals, since this might cause more scratches. Finally, before attempting any scratch repair, check your warranty and handbook, since your cooktop may be covered for a limited period.

This was the best method that I’d recommend to you. However, if you couldn’t get the desired results due to deep scratches/chips / cracks from the above mentioned points then you can follow other methods which are stated below

Touchpad Kit:

A touchup kit can be used to heal minor scratches. Large cracks, on the other hand, should be addressed by replacing the cooktop’s broken glass. Because cooking surfaces are subjected to extreme heat and rapid cooling, it is critical to repair glass cooktops properly.

Well, as you know I may happen to know one or two things about gas cooktops. So, if you want to take free advice then I should recommend you buff the scratches out of your glass cooktops by yourself.

That is for many reasons, but the first and foremost is to avoid any further damages. I don’t really like them because sometimes they damage cooktops or it may happen to me only, I don’t know.

Glass Polisher:

If you have deep scratches on your gas cooktop then a glass polisher is a thing for you. Though I am trying my best to provide the solutions and remedies that contain materials that are easy to access still I want to help you keep all the points in your mind.

How to do that:

Any non-abrasive polish would suffice. Pour a couple of pea-sized dollops of polish onto your cooktop. Make sure it is cold.

Take buffer with a cloth or soft pad and set it at the lowest speed. Move it back and forth in a gentle motion.

Cover the scratches three or four times and observe if it has vanished or not.

If not, then you’re gonna have to get a glass filler kit in hand or may have to replace it.

Glass Filler:

Now that you have tried the baking soda with toothpaste and glass polisher too and still couldn’t buff the scratches out.

Then Glass filler can come in handy! I have used them once or twice and they are pretty effective.

Method:

To do that, get a glass filler (or you can get an epoxy kit too) and clean the cracks/chipped area on your glass cooktop with a cloth damped with alcohol.

To mix the filler you can follow the instruction contained on the back of the container. Wear Rubber gloves before proceeding.

Wipe away any extra filler or epoxy, then smooth the surface with a Popsicle stick to ensure it’s flush. Allow the filling to dry.

If you wish to match the rest of the cooktop, you may paint the filler once it dries.

If you’re concerned about epoxy going everywhere, line the crack’s edges with painter’s tape.

  • But this was only for mere scratches and the cracked glass stove top is requiring you to replace it immediately.

If you think the whole is way too much problematic and you can’t afford to go through this plight and think Is It Safe to Use a Cracked Glass Stove Top?

That depends upon the severity of the damage that your stove top has gone across. In other words, a glass stove top can only be repaired under the circumstance of getting scratches only. Before proceeding any further we would like to bring your attention to the fact that only minor scratches can be taken out with this process.

If your cooktop’s glass is showing cracks then a replacement is the only viable choice. If the fracture is impacting the cooking surface or is simply unappealing to you, you should start looking for a replacement.

CONCLUSION:
